Week #50 Bewitched Blessings And Good Vibrations
I'm writing this email today because my pday was switched from yesterday to today. I'm not bogus I promise.
Tuesday:
We had to run a few ZL errands in the morning but we got them out of the way pretty quickly. We also had our branch coordination and of course weekly planning. With the little time we had left in our day we still managed to get 4 lessons in, the highlight was our lesson with Onalethata. Her older sister, Lucia, is the one that we baptized a few weeks back, she is so helpful in the lessons and has such a strong testimony. It was a great lesson!
Wednesday:
We decided to go contact a member after our first lesson fell through. They explained to us how many people are bewitching them, using black magic on them, and summoning Tokoloshe (research for more information on these creatures) to torment them. We gave a blessing of comfort and they seemed to feel much better.
We also met with a member who's on the fence about returning to his old church in response to his dying grandmother's wish. It was a nice lesson, I hope we can continue to help him.
We also had a nice lesson with Leonard (19), he's very receptive and “blindly believes everything you say” which is good I guess…? He's a little strange but it was a good lesson nonetheless.
Thursday:
We joined the Francistown district's district council as well as their district lunch. After waiting an absurd amount of time for pizza (1.5 hours) we began our exchange. I joined Elder Dos Santos in his area (F-Town) and Elder Karp took Elder Opheikens into our area (Gerald).
It was a ton of fun being on a bike after being in a driving area for the last 11 months of my mission.
All four of us stayed the night at their flat which was fun. We cooked Roll-X for dinner, it's when you cook a chapati and an omelet and then roll the omelet inside the chapati like a burrito. It was bomb. (I had to include at least one food highlight for this to be a true Elder Miller email)
Friday:
We had our district council this morning (back in our own area now). We also had a district lunch, we went to the mall and had a last lunch for Sister Welker since she is finishing her mission. We also have a new Elder, Kerago (Ethiopia), in our district that is in a trio with the Monarch Elders.
Today was actually cold enough that we had to wear our winter jackets, it was mostly because of the crazy wind. We still managed to have a lot of solid lessons. We had 2 lessons with recent converts today that both went amazing. The one, Christinah, is so smart for a RC and is really solid, she always lets us teach her whenever something falls through.
We also had another lesson with Onalethata, we put her on date for September 29th!!! We’re so excited, their little relatives always join us as well, Mpho (girl, 10), Joseph (boy, 9), Justice (boy, 4).
Saturday:
We went to a nearby village called Tati-Siding in the morning, we taught a few lessons and met a FB referral. One of the ladies we teach there, Mellindah, is very receptive but I don't see how she'll get transport to church, a 15 minute drive.
We had 3 lessons that stuck out today. The first was with Joseph (Lucia's nephew), he is so smart and could be baptized in a couple months as well. Second was a group of three women that we found, the lesson was mid but it was just funny because the one lady was vibrating with excitement when she got to shake a “LAKOA!!!"s (English person) hand. Lastly, we taught the Louis family. The father has such a strong testimony and he is the rock of that family for sure. Two of the kids are baptized, one is too young, and the other is waiting to get baptized with the parents (once they're married).
Sunday:
We got up early and went to 2 different peoples homes who we were supposed to walk to church with but they both canceled. We were also supposed to meet a few people on the way but they also canceled. Some higher ups visited all 3 “chapels” in Francistown for church and decided that all 3 need to be changed. They've given the money to build a new chapel in each of the three branches!! You literally could not fit one more person into where we are meeting right now.
We had a good lesson with Leonard again and put him on date for the 29th of September. We'll see if that's too early but that's our goal for the time being. Our last lesson was with a man that we found on a college campus once, Theo. We met him in his dorm and shared the message of the restoration and he was “enlightened”. He seems very keen on coming to church and seems really cool!
We exceeded all of our goals that we had set at the start of the week, so that was amazing!!! Gerald is really starting to pick up now.
Monday:
No P-Day today :’( It was still a good day though, we virtually joined a three hour zoom call for our mission which was hosted in Gabs. We got to hear from the 2nd counselor in the YM's general presidency, his wife, and Pres/ Sister Walker.
After the call, the Youngs took everyone to Rocomamas and bought us all burgers, fries, shakers, etc. I could feel the fight bell inside my stomach start to ring as soon as the chili bombs and the chili mayo smacked my stomach.
We taught a handful of lessons, the best was with the Louis family again. We retaught them the restoration and it was the first time for the brother-in -law of brother Louis. It went quite well but the brother-in-law (Peace) still has some questions for us to answer. We barely made it back to the flat before I almost became a missionary, iykyk
Spiritual Thought:
I recommend you all go listen to Dan Fuller's devotional on the literary evidences of the BOM. He points out some crazy evidences within the BOM that point towards its authenticity.
It is truly amazing and will make you want to study the BOM much more closely. 10/10 recommend.
Conclusion:
Love you all, I pray for you continually. Please let me know if there's anything I can pray for, or any questions you have!
Much love,
Elder Miller
