Week #43 Return To Crocodile Chaos

Hey everyone, glad to be sending out another update. This week was a little crazy and is a bit of a blur but I'll try my best.

Tuesday:

We bought a new number plate since ours fell off yesterday. The new one fell off and I don't want to buy another one, we’ll see how long I can go without one since there's one on the front anyways. We weekly planned and then only got a couple lessons today. We went teaching with a RC named Donald (better known as Govy or Government). He's infamous on the streets of Gerald so we soon had a band of 5 guys walking with us and they wouldn't go away. It was kinda fun but also distracting. We also moved a new TV into the chapel today. We don't even have a working mic so the branch really needs to prioritize. The AP’s got here tonight so we did in person call ins with them.

Wednesday:

We picked up Elder Pirie (AP, and also my former trainer for 2 weeks) from the Monarch elders flat. We got some lunch and planned and then we went out for the day. We got 9 lessons today so that was awesome, there were a few that went really well as well. We went to the F-Town 2 flat and grabbed some Crocodile meat that we bought on Monday.

Thursday:

Pirie and I drove to Serowe (2 hours away) to have exchanges for a couple days. There's 2 companionships there and they're in my zone so we thought it would be a good time for exchanges since the AP’s are here. I went with Elders Steimle and Kihanya, their area is great and they have some really cool members. We went finding with some hilarious member that goes by Lordship, dude can talk to anyone and they instantly like him. We ended the night by eating Crocodile curry, it was pretty good.

Friday:

Today I went with Elders Havea and Baptista, Pirie went with the others. It was my first time being in a non-driving area, we walked all day and taught a decent amount of lessons. Some big 12 year old named Thero walked with us all day as well as a girl named Abigail, also around 12 I think. It's crazy how much they love missionary work here. The kids taught me a lot of Setswana today so that was also sick.

Saturday:

Pirie and I drove back to Francistown first thing in the morning. We went to my apt to freshen up and then straight to the Youngs (Senior couple), they cooked us some breakfast and then we went to the F-Town chapel. We all had interviews with President Walker, it was my first time seeing him since he re-entered the mission. I love him and Sister Walker so much!! He came with us after the interviews for lunch, which he bought, and then to a lesson. He shared a lot of really cool insights and great scriptures, he sets by example for sure. We had to drop him off at home after, he shared about how he got into commercial fishing and how his biggest pull was a couple hundred tons of squid!!! We taught a few more lessons that evening.

Sunday:

Santos and I + 1 elderly sister were the only ones at the chapel by 9 (we actually got there at 8:30). We had to clean, set up, prepare sacrament, get bread, etc. Growing pains of a branch I guess, but still… they really need some strong leadership here. After church we picked up Elder Mwendwa (other AP) so he could join us for exchanges today. We came back to the flat and ate and then headed out. We taught a few lessons and then he had to go help with something at the Youngs. When we got there there was food galore so we stuffed ourselves, then stuffed ourselves with dessert, and then went back out with Mwendwa to finish the day. We had a couple contacts and a couple lessons to end the night.

Monday:

Today, all the companionships in the F-Town zone except the Serowe elders, as well as the AP’s went to the croc farm since some missed out last time. One again we got to play with some crocodiles and hold a big one this time. Santos, Dos Santos, and I ran a couple errands with/ for the sisters after and then met back up with everyone at the Youngs. Like usual we played pickleball, Santos and I played for 3 hours straight until we finally lost. We were in pretty bad shape after that, especially since it was like 32⁰C. We all crushed the Carbonara, pasta, and breadsticks that the Allens and Youngs made us, played a little more sports and then went home to clean up. We taught a couple lessons tonight which went well and then we headed home.

Spiritual Thought:

John 15: 10-11

10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. 11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

As we keep the commandments they will help us feel of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ's love for us. The commandments are what give us freedom, not restrict it. When we are free from addiction and distraction only then will we truly have freedom. The freedom to choose what is right, to have better relationships, to have joy, and to grow closer to our Heavenly Father each day.

As we keep the commandments of God our “Joy might be full”.

Conclusion:

As you can see there were a lot of exchanges this week, it was fun but has also left me exhausted. I love you guys and would love to respond to any questions or comments you have next P-Day (monday). Have an amazing week!!

With love,

Elder Miller
