Week #31 Don't Drive Drunk

Hello everyone! It's good to say hi to all of you again. It's no surprise that I'm writing this email right before my curfew so as per usual I'll be speeding through this email. Hopefully you can enjoy this mess of an email…

Tuesday:

I called every single person in our area book this morning for weekly planning. Weekly planning is honestly the most boring part of the week so that was a bit of a grind but we made it. On Tuesdays we start late because weekly planning takes a few hours but we still managed to get 6 lessons in which is good for a Tuesday! On our way home there was a car stuck on the hill so we towed him up the hill and to his home (perks of having a baaki now).

Wednesday:

This morning the AP's (Assistants to the President)  showed up at our flat unannounced since “they're doing exchanges with the Zone leaders until Friday”. A Lot of lessons fell through today which sucked but the lessons we did have were nice. Our last stop of the night was at our branch president's home and he was telling us some funny stories from his mission in Ghana. When we got back to the flat I made some burgers for us and the AP's since they were staying with us.

Thursday:

We had district council this morning but the chapel was locked… so we went across the street to some out of order cement bus stop filled with very vulgar graffiti. It was an interesting district council to say the least. We got 7 lessons today which was decent. Our last one was with a brother named Tebogo, he’s very funny. The lesson was over an hour (they shouldn't exceed 30 mins), but it was a good lesson cause he asked a lot of questions. AP’s still crashed at our place.

Friday:

We went to the two other companionships compound (white castles) so Kivuva could do some district leader stuff. Then we had to run back to our flat so the AP's could get their stuff since they were leaving. We got 7 lessons and then on our way to another lesson the branch elders called us. They're in a walking area so they have to be home by 7:30 and the taxis were nowhere. We drove them home by 8 and then got home a bit early. Because we had some extra time I whipped up some nice chapatis.

Saturday:

After finishing our lesson with Junior we went out to the car and noticed our tire was flat. We looked at it and there were no holes so the little boys that are always hanging out near the car opened the valve while we were in the lesson. We changed the tire and then had to go to the station to fill our spare and the removed tire since they were both flat. We had two friends who had their interviews for baptism so the ZL’s came to do them. I went with Havea for one and Kelley/Kivuva for the other. Ours finished early so we went to their interview and I changed our tire back on while we waited for them. We taught some lessons and then we had to go pick the Kanye West elders from the Police Station. Somebody rear-ended them so we drove them to one of their lessons, the work goes forth. On our way to their lesson, we saw some guys whipping a sweet donkey cart.

Also, today we parked our car and as we got out a car pulled up beside us and rolled their window down. I leaned down to see inside and was smacked in the face by the smell of alcohol. The guy told me to drive slower and be cautious… well I saw a beer bottle in between his legs so I told him not to drive drunk. He started laughing and drove away, alcohol is a real problem here.

Sunday:

I got to confirm/ confer the Gift of the Holy Ghost to our friend Gift who was baptized last week. After church, I baptized our friend Junior. The outdoor font only filled a tiny bit but he insisted on being baptized this week so we did it on our knees and I had to practically lay him on the ground. Nevertheless, It was a good baptism! We had lunch and personal study plus some DL stuff from Kivuva after church so it wasn't as productive of a day as I would've liked.

Monday:

I went with Elder Wutkee to the ZL's flat this morning for haircuts from Elder Havea. He gave both of us a buzz cut. I handwashed the baaki while Wutkee was getting cut. Afterward, 6 of us went to the police camps to play basketball and soccer which was fun but I was dying of heat with no water. We went and bought groceries afterward and then headed home. We rested up for a bit and then we went out for the night. We got a few lessons in which was nice. I also finished my first cement barbell today which is a sweet addition to the gym.

Spiritual Thought:

Study D&C 103 as invited by President Russel M. Nelson this general conference.

Conclusion:

Hope you're all doing well and learning and growing in the gospel each day! I pray and think about you all continually. Have an amazing week!
