Week #32 Dig In

Hello everyone, welcome back! I hope you all had a great week. I appreciate all the messages and emails that I’ve received from you all!

Let’s get right into the report of the week…

Tuesday:

After finishing our morning routines and about to begin our weekly planning the office elders called us. They told us that we needed to drive to Gabs (capital city) for me to go do my Botswana visa work so I don't get deported. When we arrived they were just finishing their Gabs zone conference so we got to eat their food with them and see all of my mission buddies- it was so much fun! Following that I went with the office elders (Machisu and Opheikens) as well as 3 sisters and another elder to run around from place to place for our visa applications. I got a nice pic with my new short hair. Before heading back to Kanye I dropped the elder I was with at his flat which happens to be Elder Tolberts flat which has 6 missionaries! It looks like so much fun! On our way to Kanye I stopped at their huge mall here and bought some Gold Standard protein, I didn’t even know they had that here.

Wednesday:

We went and picked up Mirah and Wutkee from the castles this morning and drove to the chapel to prepare it for zone conference today. It was a very nice conference, it focused on unity, in companionships, districts, zones, missions, life, etc. Then we had a duet by elders Kelley and Havea… IYKYK. After it concluded we got to stuff ourselves with pizza so that was also a dub. While we were all waiting for our interviews with President we talked about the upcoming zone vs. zone, Gabs vs. Kanye P-Day ball. After running matchups and stats we concluded that we would definitely win. After teaching some lessons after zone conference we came home and I made some nice chapatis.

Thursday:

We had district council today and then we came back to the flat to do our weekly planning since we had to drive to Gabs on Tuesday. We taught a good amount of lessons today, the highlights were Juniors, Bro. Pule’s, and Tebogo’s. At Juniors we played some “Mmhele” it's a board game that you draw in the dirt that kind of looks like a rectangular web and you each have 12 stones and you move them around trying to capture the stones. It’s hard to explain but very fun! At Brother Pule’s we showed him the temple tour video since he is preparing to go and he was so happy… he’s one of the swaggiest grandpas I’ve ever met (still doesn’t have anything on my grandpa).  Lastly, we met with Tebogo, he is about 22 and he’s very funny. Our lessons always go way long and he asks so many questions.

Friday:

We went to our favorite members home, Joseph/ Jessica/ Sheeba and helped them paint their inside walls. We finally got to teach this drunk guy that we’re always trying to get in contact with. In his prayer he gave thanks for “the new release from Canada '' and I managed not to laugh in the middle of the prayer. We decided that we're going to re-teach Prince every principle because he virtually remembers nothing from what Kivuva and Tujague taught him. It’s a little tough since he was supposed to be baptized last week but oh well. On our drive back from one of our last lessons tonight we drove past a bar and there were some very drunk people and the guys were doing some very sus dances to say the least… I won't go any further. Video in the link.

Saturday:

We did exchanges today with the zone leaders. Today, I was with Havea. We taught a few lessons this morning/ early afternoon and then we got lunch. Elder Havea is so funny and is notorious for many things on our mission but one of them is his chewing… If you’ve seen a camel or alpaca that's as close as I can get haha. He did a baptismal interview for our friend Letang so I played some Mmhele with some kids while I waited. We had a couple more lessons and then we went to the chapel to host the BOM class with the other branch elders. We made a competitive PvP/TeamvTeam game out of it.

two rows line up facing each other (these are the teams)

you pick one matchup of people and say a random word in the BOM, ie. grace, faith, mercy, etc. First one to find it wins the point for their team.

if they can't find it and 3 other people from their team find it they can get the point that way as well.

team with most points at the end wins.

Hopefully, that made sense.

Outside the chapel, after the class everyone had a rock fight where they just whip rocks at each other. We scared the other elders at night when they came to check if their baptismal font was ready for Sunday, we jumped out and spooked them.

Also, another thing that Havea is notorious for is his love for dogs… not as pets but as food. We passed a road kill dog and he asked if we could get it and go cook dinner, I think he was only half kidding.

Sunday:

Not much to report today but after church, I got to baptize Letang and Kivuva baptized Kegomoditswe. Then we confirmed them as well as Junior who was baptized last week. We taught 4 lessons today and contacted a lot of people.

Monday:

We got up at 5:30 and went to the castles to pick up the other elders. They were running very late so we didn't get to Gabs until 8:30-9:00. We had our Gabs vs Kanye ball at the KFC courts and we beat them in a series of 7, 4-1. It was so fun to play real ball because it was my first time in the last 7 months. We chilled at the village flat for a bit after with Tolbert and Pirie and all the guys that stay there. Then we drove back to Kanye, did some shopping, and then went out for the day. My comp wanted to come back after 30 mins but that wasn’t happening so I taught a lesson by myself cause he refused to talk and then went and did some contacts on my own (he was still with me but wasn’t talking and was standing far away). There might be some contentions now but oh well.

Conclusion:

I had a nice week with lots of lessons, baptisms, my gym is growing, and I got to play ball in Gabs!! This work is whatever you make of it, if you have a bad attitude and drag your feet you won't enjoy it. But when you dig in and work it becomes so much fun and you get lost in the work. My invitation this week is to try and “dig in” with whatever you're experiencing and enjoy it as you work hard and grow.

I hope you all have a fantastic week, stay safe, talk next week!

Much love,
Elder miller
