Week #22 Trio Time
Hello Everyone! Welcome back to my weekly update. Hope you are all doing well. This week was pretty mellow but there were a few exciting and funny things so I can get started.
Tuesday:
Today was pretty generic, we taught a good amount of lessons, maybe 7. We were able to help Letisia finish setting up her mission portal since she’s leaving on Monday (today for those of you reading on the 26th). We taught a nice family that we’ve been teaching for a while now. The mother Maria is on date for the 30th of March and we are planning to put her son and niece on date soon. The cool thing is her oldest daughter was baptized a few months ago in Windhoek and we didn’t know it was her daughter until she came here to Swak.
Elder Mahisu is very funny and always cracking jokes. He has the funniest laugh I’ve ever heard.
Wednesday:
We taught a lot of lessons today which was awesome. A lot of them were with people around our age and so they feel very comfortable with us so we always have nice lessons and they’re very funny. We also grabbed chicken wraps from Fork n Nice and walked by the beach while they were being made, this is one of the best parts of Fork n Nice. Our very last lesson cancelled tonight and so on our way home we stopped by the Strand Hotel and went on a walk along the boardwalk by the beach with lit-up palm trees. It’s so peaceful at night. Credits to Elder Herrera though for showing me the walk when he was here for Zone conference.
Thursday:
Machisu loves fork n nice already so we went back this morning but I went to the truck next door and got a pork gyro with tzatziki which was banging (if any of you know me, you know I love tzatziki). Our first couple of lessons were canceled so we called a lot of our friends and set up appointments and also called people who responded to Facebook ads. We taught like 5 lessons today. The best two were the 2 girls who are on date for Saturday the 2nd, Sarafina and Emma (14 and 10 respectively). Ended the night by getting some shredded chicken and rice from Gallitos.
Friday:
We’re in a trio Now!!! We picked up an Elder from Walvis Bay this morning. His name is Elder Karp and he is from Germany and has only been on his mission a transfer (6 weeks) longer than us. We went to a youth activity afterward and put on a movie for some and brought card games for others. Then we had 3 lessons back to back at the chapel with friends who came for youth activity. We ended the night by teaching Sarafina again and like 7 little ones joined us from ages 2-14, it was a nice lesson.
Saturday:
Sorry to say but I’m going to talk about food again… It was Elder Karp’s first morning in Nam/ Swak so we had to give him a proper breakfast experience. I’m sure you can guess where we went… Fork N nice and then walked to the beach while we waited for it to be prepared. We taught a lot of lessons today and also taught mission prep. For mission prep we talked about the importance of goal setting and how it is a valuable skill in and out of mission work. It was a good class and it was full, which was awesome! Our last lesson was with the huge family that we’ve been teaching. It’s the one where all the kids dress up in bow ties and white shirts when we come. It was a decent lesson but it went very long.
Sunday:
We had 11 of our friends get to church today which was awesome!! Naftali was able to receive the priesthood today since he was baptized on the 10th. He’s so cool and remembers so much. We talked with the members for a while after church and everyone got pics with Letisia since she’s leaving tomorrow!!! She also gave her farewell talk in church today which was very nice, I’m so excited for her. All of the youth were making fun of Elder Karp already so that’s a good sign… they’re already accepting him haha. We quickly went to the flat to change out of our suits and eat and then we went back to the chapel to watch the worldwide YSA devotional. It was very dark and I was tired so I may have “meditated” for an hour. We taught a few lessons and then went to Letisia’s to say bye and chat for a bit. Our last lesson of the night was way in Vagtar (that is spelled wrong) it means “way there” in Afrikaans. We stopped by some members (Favor and Rejoice) to join us for a lesson and Machisu and them were trying to teach us a dance. I'm horrible and don’t like dancing lol. We had the lesson and then went home.
Monday:
This morning began with an early trip to buy data at the petrol station but the machine was broken. We went to a grocery store but it was closed so we walked around back and gave a guy our money through the security gate and he disappeared for a while and then reappeared with a data receipt and our change, what a G! I talked to the fam for a bit and then we all fell back asleep for a while. We went back to Letisia’s to help her with a few things right before she left. We said our final goodbyes! Then we went and got some nxa (nice) ice cream in town and then drove to the beach. We walked around for a while and enjoyed the breeze and waves. Then we went to the grocery store and got what we needed. After we got back to the flat we made some pork stew and chapati. Elder Machisu asked how I made my dough so good, so that was a flex since he's from Kenya. We slept a little more after and then we went out and taught two lessons. Lastly, we grabbed the necessary fat cakes for the day.
Also, when Elder Karp said bye to a German guy in one of the shops we were in today the shop worker saluted Hitler which was shocking and crazy. Swakopmund was founded by Germans and still has a heavy German influence/population. Google "swakopmund" and look at some of the buildings. It's not what you would expect.
Conclusion:
This week was pretty fun and like usual just flew by. I can't believe that's already 22 weeks like woah! My time is running out in Swak because my Nam visa will expire in two months so I’ll probably leave at the end of this transfer which is sad. When we're busy and working hard it’s always quick and we have fun. We still have to adjust to teaching in a trio but we’ll figure it out quickly I’m sure.
I hope you all had a good week as well and look forward to talking next week!
Email me or message me on messenger if you have any questions or just want to chat! I love hearing from everyone out here in the desert.
Lekker Slaap.
