Week #21 Blessings, Baptisms, Norman Daniels, And Mopane Worms

Hello Everyone! This week was another good week. Let's get started.

Tuesday:

Today we taught a nice amount of lessons, a lot of them were with members joining too which helps the friends a lot! The highlight today was when we put our friend Penandino on date, he’s very cool and very funny. He’s always cracking jokes and really wants to learn more. We also helped our friend Fatima prepare for her baptism this Saturday! Our last lesson was a phone lesson so we drove to the beach and watched the sunset while we taught our last lesson.

Wednesday:

Today was another full day. we taught a couple of lessons and then we saw Sister Leticia and she was having a Wambo print dress made so we commissioned some ties which will be sweet! We helped Ishuna with his final preparations before his baptism on Saturday and then we went to Naftalis. He had his baptismal interview over the phone with some elders in Windhoek and he was ready! So now he just had to wait till Saturday! We ended the night by teaching a bunch of lessons and then also stopped at a friend's house and sang happy birthday and gave her a little present.

Thursday:

We taught quite a few phone lessons today which isn’t as fun but we’re still grateful for the blessing that it is to teach over the phone! Ishuna and Fatima both had their baptismal interviews today and remembered everything we taught them. We’re seriously so excited for them and they’re all so cool and want to learn so badly. We went to the beach to check the venue for the baptisms on Saturday because the water in the chapel wasn’t working and it looked great!

Friday:

The morning began with district council which I led and it went well and we learned a lot from the elders who spoke. Our first few lessons canceled so we contacted a lot of our friends and then we went to the youth activity. We made popcorn and put a movie on the projector for them, “the story of Joseph Smith”. It made me realize how badly I miss movies but there’ll be plenty waiting for me back home. We taught a few lessons afterwards, helped a member wash their windows, and then headed home for the night.

Saturday:

BAPTISMS!! We met a lot of youth and our friends being baptized at the chapel in the morning and got them all ready and walked to the beach together. There was a circle of colorful benches at the end of a path reaching out into the ocean like an arm. We sat and sang some hymns, a prayer, and then a talk on baptism by Leticia and a talk on the Gift of the Holy Ghost by Pepcy. Then we proceeded to the baptisms, we went to the shore and got into the water (a rare treat for a missionary). Branch President Katjotjo baptized Fatima, then Elder Were baptized Ishuna, and I baptized Naftali. It was so nice and the Spirit was very strong there. We sang a hymn and then closed with a prayer. I’m so happy for them and this covenant they made with God!

We picked up the Notorious Norman Daniels (if you know you know) who was visiting from Windhoek and he went teaching with us all day. We taught a few lessons and then went to the chapel to teach mission prep. We taught them some of the standards by showing them a safety zone video (cheezy mission prep videos I had to watch). We taught a few lessons to end the night. Norman is so funny and a good teacher so we were glad to have him.

Sunday:

We picked Norman up from his place and gave him some breakfast since he didn’t have groceries and he kept farting in the backseat. Every time he blamed it on Elder Were and would say,  “not while I'm eating!" Like I said, he’s a very funny guy🤣 Our friends were all confirmed members today and given the Gift of the Holy Ghost, it was an amazing sacrament meeting. We taught a couple of lessons with Norman and then had to drop him at the taxi pickup. We opened the trunk to get his bag and got swarmed by 20 people who just kept coming out of nowhere for “free Bibles”, we gave them Book of Mormons. We taught some more lessons and then taught the last lesson which was on the phone at the beach. Between Swakopmund and Walvis where the dunes meet the sea, it's amazing.

Monday:

Today was nice, we started with a bit of cleaning and then we headed to the Krystal Galerie. We walked through some tunnels, saw some sweet minerals and learned a lot. I even got a pic with the world's biggest quartz formation which took 5 or 7 years to excavate, I can't remember. Next we went to a museum. We saw a lot of things ranging from Namibian culture, tribes, agriculture, weapons etc. to model cars, dentistry, war, cameras, geology, archaeology, taxidermy, basically everything. It was very cool! Afterwards we stopped at a Beaver Canoe Toronto Canada shop which sold no Beaver Canoe stuff. They had a couple of shoes that had a beaver canoe display for them but they were not made by them haha. Then we got some butter chicken, went to a china shop, and bought some mopane worms. We gave the worms to Leticia to cook and then we went and taught a few very nice lessons. We dropped by her house and ate the worms. They’re actually caterpillars about the size of my index finger. They’re the same ones they eat in The Lion King. It was like seaweed on the outside with sand in the middle, salty and crunchy. 4/10. We came back to the flat, ate some chapati and butter chicken and now I’m writing this email. (check out the videos in the link below to see us eating the worms)

Spiritual Thought:

My thought will be quick this week but it is of the power, blessings, revelation, and strength that comes from daily scripture study and prayer. I’ve seen it bless my life tremendously while I’ve been on the mission.

Read 1 Nephi 19:23 and 2 Nephi 32:3

Conclusion:

This week was amazing and I’m seeing so many blessings each day in my life, our friends, and my family back home. The gospel is powerful and God knows and loves every single one of you. Have an amazing week, all my love!
