Week #9 What The Flip Were We Doing At The Sand Dunes? Gosh.

It's very late here right now and I forgot to write an email so it's going to be a little bit short here this week. I'll just give a few highlights and of course a few pictures!

Highlights:

We started the week with some Fish N' Chips from Fork N' Nice again. It is by far the best fish n chips I've ever had, I wish you could all try it.

We stopped by the house where like 10 little kids always play from ages 6-16 (I can't remember if I've mentioned them in my emails before). We've taught them a few times and they're all so funny and want to play so it's hard to say goodbye when we have to get to our next lesson.

This week our MSF cards (How we get our money for groceries etc.) Finally started working after being broken for two weeks so we were able to buy a lot of groceries which was so nice.

On Thursday we drove to Walvis Bay. The whole drive is along the coastline where the dunes meet the sea so I guess the view was alright. On our drive back to Swakopmund me and Elder Tolbert wanted a better view of the ocean so we took a little sand road and ended up burying the tires. We kept trying to get the car unstuck and we were digging it out for about 45 minutes when finally some cars came and helped us. They towed us out, followed us to the service station, talked with us for a bit, and then gave us chocolate bars and some cool drinks so it was a great experience. We learned a lot about what to do when your car is buried in the dunes and we met some awesome people!

We've been teaching this little family of two older siblings 30 ish and early 20's and their younger brother who's like 12. They're very receptive to the lessons and seem to want to learn more so it's been great seeing their drive and willingness to keep commitments.

We walked to church on Sunday with a few of our friends and we ended up having a surprise family of 6 show up that we met two weeks ago. We haven't had any contact with them since so that was a huge miracle to see them there. They all seemed to really enjoy church and they said they're coming next week so we were very happy to hear that.

Today was a pretty chill P day. I bought a sweet African shirt, and a rugby ball, bought groceries, and got lunch at this Diner called Spurs with the Sisters. We ended the night with our online Monday night devotionals with the Zone as usual. It was very good, we learned about how we can turn our negative thoughts into appreciation of God's will.

Scripture of the week:

Alma 7:11-13

11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people. 12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities. 13 Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me.

I know that Jesus Christ lives and that he is the Savior and redeemer of the world. That he suffered and died on the cross for each and every one of us individually. That His atoning sacrifice is the means by which we can be forgiven and be made whole so that we can enter into the kingdom of God. I am so grateful for this gospel and the blessing it has been in my life and I've seen it transform my life, specifically out here on my mission. I know that we can have much more happiness and joy when we follow the example of Jesus Christ and I share these things in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.

Conclusion:

This week was pretty generic but it was a good week and went by so fast. It's been great because I learn a lot every day and am getting more immersed in the work. It also helps that Swak is the best area in the mission. Like usual I love you all and hope you're all doing amazing and are getting ready for American Thanksgiving, we're still deciding what we want to do for that over here.

All the best,
Elder Miller

We are getting excited for Christmas.
Two of the little kids we love visiting with.
Not actual D&D but I thought it was funny.
The sunsets here are always so beautiful.
