Week #8 Camels And Calamari

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am 9 hours ahead of mountain standard time so I might be a week late responding to emails as I'm going to bed when it's mid day for you. I appreciate all the emails I've received already. Also, although I have Facebook our mission does not allow us to use it so if you'd like to contact me it has to be through email.

General Overview:

Tuesday:

We started the day with finding like usual, because we are opening this new area of Swakopmund it seems like we're finding for an eternity sometimes. Luckily we quickly found a group of little kids from 6-16 ish who all wanted to have a lesson together so we sat outside and talked a little bit about the Godhead. Kids always give very fun and interactive lessons which makes the time fly by really quickly and always gives us a bit more energy. Plus they're insanely good for referrals, it seems like they know an endless amount of little kids that always want to learn. That's something that has been great here, the kids are always wanting to learn more. Today we also ate at the best spot here in Swak, it's a food truck called "Fork N' Nice". Elder Tolbert and I each got The Combo with a Cuban. It's Fish N Calamari N Chips, and the Cuban is a pulled pork sandwich on a toasted bun. It's seriously the best fish n chips ever, I wish you could all try it.

Wednesday:

Today was a pretty generic day. Most of our lessons today fell through so we went finding… again. We found a lot more people today which was great and we set up times to meet with them again. We had to return to Fork n Nice because it is so good, it was even better this time. Elder Tolbert and I were talking a lot about our favorite Christmas movies like Elf, Christmas Vacation and many others. We are getting into our Christmas spirit already. We ended the night by cutting a watermelon in half and just devouring it so that was pretty fun.

Thursday:

We started today by walking out to our donut shop on the jetty (pier). We bought a boatload of donuts and some cheesecake for us and the sisters. While we were there we walked to the edge of the pier and saw a seal swimming around which was super cool. Once we were done at the Jetty we picked up Sisters Neweyembwa and Mwanawasa and drove to Windhoek for our mission zone conference. The drive was like 3.5 hours and we saw a lot of baboons and also 4 giraffes on the way. Once we arrived we went on splits with other missionaries there and taught a couple lessons.

Friday:

We started our day by meeting at the chapel where we waited 2 hours longer than expected for the AP's and President and Sister Walker to fly in from Botswana. Once they arrived we started our conference, there was an area 70 there which was awesome, Elder Aidukaitis. He was very funny and we all learned a lot. After the conference it was about time to wrap up for the night so nothing much happened today.

Saturday:

Today started with us packing up and driving back to Swak. We were all very excited because the 15 degrees in Swak is much better than the 40 degrees in Windhoek. During the drive we listened to some BYU devotionals, General Conference Talks, and some more Christmas Music. Much of the music was accompanied by our clip name tags that can make a kazoo sound when you blow in them. Once we got back we went for dinner at our branch president Katjojo's house. It was Pap, beans, and a whole fish. For any who may have forgotten, pap is the white maize meal stuff you eat with your hands. It gets a little better each time I eat it, I might even say I enjoyed it this time.

Sunday:

Today we had church and a few of our friends that we met showed up to church which was great to see. It's funny how honest all of the members here. Even when we're doing things like ward councils. We taught a few lessons tonight which were all very good. It's nice to start actually teaching instead of just finding all day. We ended the night by visiting with a few recent converts, their names are Laticia and Joanna. They're both so funny and seem like their bodies and hands never stop moving when they talk, they have so much energy. They teach a lot of lessons with us and always keep the lessons fresh and super funny. They have a spot on the side of their house where all the Elders that have been there scratch their names so we kept up with the tradition.

Monday:

This morning we met Laticia, Joanna, and the sisters at our place and walked to the dunes. Once we got there we did some cardboard surfing, tag, buried Laticia and saw some guys riding camels. We're thinking we might go ride some another P day. Once we got back to our flat, us and the sisters drove to Walvis Bay to pick up Sister Welker. Once we got her and then back to Swak we went to a mall and bought Christmas decorations as well as a mini pool table for Mr and Elder Tolbert's flat. Then the sisters brought us to a nice restaurant here where we got some bomb Buffalo wings. We ended the night by saying goodbye to Sister Mwanawasa because she leaves tomorrow for Botswana.

Scripture of the Week:

Galatians 5: 22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance

Conclusion:

Hope you're all doing great and had a good weekend. We're ramping up for Christmas here so we hope you guys are too. Like usual if you have any questions or want to say hi feel free to email me.

Love you all!!
