Week #6 "Mr Neff-E - Large In Stature"

Le tsogile jang?
(How are you)

Hope you're all doing well and had a good week.

General Overview:
For the most part, this week was pretty Melo compared to the others. Not necessarily a bad thing, as it was nice to have a bit of a slower week but we still got plenty of lessons in. The whole week was basically 35°C so we were low key dying but not much we can do about that so the work continued.

Each day this week was mostly the same with lessons from 11:30 ish to 9:30 is. Because of the heat there were a lot of lessons that fell through this week which was unfortunate but we still taught plenty and were able to find over 20 new people to teach so that is a huge win. We were also able to put around 8 people on date for their baptisms.

We went on exchanges on Saturday and Elder Otema joined me and Elder Pirie and Elder Thomas went with Elder Adam's. Elder Otema is from Uganda so he doesn't speak Setswana but the little kids always assume that he can, which is funny. He seems like a chill guy and a good missionary.

We went to plate food for lunch every day this week so I felt quite lucky. I tried something called Samp instead of the typical madombi. I'm not exactly sure what Samp is but it was pretty good, nothing on madombi though.

I drove to Gabs last night and spent the night in some other Elders flat and then hopped on a plane to Jo Berg and then to Windhoek, Namibia. Not entirely sure how long I'll be here but Namibia is the place everyone in this mission wants to go but not everyone gets to, so I'm pretty lucky. Because of Nam's rules I can only stay here for a Max of 6 months and then it's back to Botswana.

Something Funny:
Because of the heat we were constantly having lessons canceled which meant we had to walk around and find new people to teach. You'd think the people here would be somewhat acclimated to the heat as they've lived here their whole lives but that's not the case. It seems every conversation starts with them saying, "It's way too hot here". Followed by "You guys NEED to buy some hats", I've been told at least a dozen times this week that I need to buy a hat.

Around Kanye there are tuck shops on practically every corner that sell sweets, chips, pop, and anything you'd find at a gas station. We've stopped at at least one every day this week for ice pops to help us get through the heat. This week was so bad that we just pulled the truck up right beside the little window of the Tuck shop and used it as a drive through because we didn't want to get out of the car. While we were in front, a bunch of kids started lining up because they couldn't get up to the window.

Something Spiritual:
There was a family we met this week and we challenged them to read the BOM and gave them a copy. We returned to their house 3 days later for a lesson and one of the younger girls said she had read to Mosiah 22 around page 120 which was crazy.

We were going between houses again this Sunday and walking with friends to church. We ended up walking with 16 people and like 6 of them were under 7 years old. The walk was about an hour and a half but the kids were running like the whole time which was crazy… even the 4 year Olds. The Lord really does strengthen us when we try our best.

Lastly, there was a cool experience with a guy we've been teaching. He hasn't been doing great since we first met him and is a bit of an oddball. Anyways, we showed up to his house where he's usually always sleeping but he was outside with a big smile on his face and was reading the Book of Mormon! He said to come back in an hour cause he was reading and was really enjoying it. As we were leaving he said "I'm reading about Mr. Neff-E (Nephi)... large in stature!". He had a drastically different demeanor and seemed so happy. When we read from the BOM we can feel much joy and come a lot closer to God and Jesus Christ.

Daily Scripture:
I'm kind of cheating this week because I'm using a quote but it's OK because it's from President Russel. M. Nelson.

“The Book of Mormon provides the fullest and most authoritative understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ to be found anywhere. It teaches what it really means to be born again. … We know why we are here on earth. These and other truths are more powerfully and persuasively taught in the Book of Mormon than in any other book. The full power of the gospel of Jesus Christ is contained in the Book of Mormon"

I've definitely been able to see the Book of Mormon change the lives of people here in Botswana and witness the joy that they experience as they read and search the words in it. I've also seen myself begin to appreciate it more each time I read it and learn something new each time. The Book of Mormon truly does and can answer questions of the soul.

Conclusion:
I'm so glad that I could talk with you all again this week and I'm already looking forward to next week. Hope you're all well and have a good week. Much Love.
