Week #18.5-19 Use Boldness

Image
I’m back! This week was a quick week, literally. Having 2 P-days in one week is pretty nice. Hope everyone is doing well since my last email, and was able to enjoy the weekend. Especially everyone back home in Calgary with the -60 C° with windchill.  This email is gonna be short and sweet since it is only a recap of the last 4 days. Friday: I started my morning with a run to/ along the beach and then up and down the pier with one of the AP’s Elder Herrera. It was much needed cause I felt like death after and it was only like 1.8 miles. The mission bulk may be going a little too well. Once we got back to the flat we all headed out for Zone Conference. For those of you who don’t know what that is it is essentially a conference that we have once a month. Every missionary in our zone, which happens to be all of Namibia, gets together. Some of the missionaries as well as the mission president all give talks and trainings and it's a time for all of us to grow our knowledge and faith in t...

Week #18-18.5 Bones, Dead Seals, Saved A Life, And Camels

Hello everyone! I'm glad I get to write about my last week and a half. A little preface as to why I'm writing on Thursday as opposed to the usual Monday is that because of zone conference tomorrow, we are taking p-day today. Everyone here for zone conference wanted to have a p-day in Swakopmund so we swapped our pday to today. It's been a week and a half so I can get right into the email in hopes that I won't drag it out for too long. Tuesday: I had a new experience today on the mission so that was fun… Today we taught a lesson over google translate! This sister speaks portuguese, oshiherrero, oshiwambo, and one other language I can't remember. We had an in person translator and and also google translate. At some points Elder Were couldn't remember a word in English so he put in translate from Swahili into portuguese. So between all of these factors we used Oshivambo, Swahili, English, and portuguese in the lesson which was very interesting to say the least.  We...

Week #17 Greetings From Swakopmund

Hello everyone! Hope you've all had an amazing week and were able to enjoy the end of the holiday season. This week has had a few surprises, to which area/s I'm serving in as well as some mission rules. So we can get right into a report of my week and its adventures/ surprises!  Also, as of Monday, I have officially been serving as a missionary for 4 months! Tuesday: Today I woke up to some amazing news… we were told that we’re going back to Swak! We planned on leaving Wednesday morning so we had to deep clean the flat which sucked cause I had just deep cleaned the Swakopmund flat but since I was going back to Swak I didn't mind  All of our phone lessons were canceled today so we went and joined Elders Machisu and Wanambuko for two of their lessons. We went to a member's house after who usually hosts an FHE for the missionaries each week but turns out she's in England right now. So another member who is also staying there came out and showed us the RC car that he co...

Week #16 Goodbye To Swakopmund

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you’ve all had a great week and were able to enjoy the holiday season! This week was a little crazy and there were some big changes so I’ll get right into it. Tuesday: We began our week normally as any other, going to lessons, visiting members, weekly planning… etc. I don't want to put you to sleep. Tolbert also got his journal signed by a few members as his Visa for Nam is expiring very soon. Wednesday: Today began with us going to Fork n Nice for a nice brunch, however, we ended up waiting an hour when we were told it would be 15 minutes. Needless to say, we were both quite hangry by the time our food arrived which only made us devour it quicker than usual… I didn't know it was possible. We also taught a few lessons with a member named Siegfried, he is currently putting his papers in for a mission! We had a nice mid-day bone delivery again but this time we had planned for it so we were able to protect the carpet in the trunk of the car from the b...

Week #15 Happy New Year

Image
Some highlights: Tuesday: We started the week by helping a member do laundry. I am quickly honing my hand-washing skills. This was only my second time now and they laughed at me less than my first time so that's an improvement. Wednesday: We had a surprise call from a member saying they were outside the grocery store with 500 pounds of bones and had no means of transporting them back home. So we had to miss a few lessons to go load our car with bags full of cow bones, heads, ribs, spines, and kneecaps. It took us two trips. They wanted us to then drop them off at all the members' homes but unfortunately, we didn't have time that day. Thursday: The morning after we transported the bones they still needed our help to transport them to some members' homes. It was truly one of the worst things I've smelled so we went and got our car washed instantly.  We helped Queeny fetch water from the closest tap. Everyone has a little plastic stick with a circular metal chip on the...
