Week #68 A Wonderful Christmas

Image
Hey everyone, Merry Christmas and a happy new year! Hopefully you're all enjoying the festive seasons, everyone here in Gabs has left for their home villages. It's made this week another interesting one, but still pretty good! Our week started out with some really good lessons, the first was Chaka, the second was Eric. Chaka is continuing to progress really well and we should be able to set a baptismal date with him soon. He's also hilarious so we always have a nice chat before our lessons. Eric is a Facebook referral that we received a few weeks back, he's been reading the BoM a lot and practically recited all of Alma 32 to us. I think he'll also be able to progress towards baptism relatively quickly. This same day Wutkee may or may not have pancaked a cat on our way home trying to make it back before curfew. Christmas day was really fun, it started out by all of Gabs, Kanye, and Mochudi, going to the Walkers for a Christmas lunch/ devotional thing. After that...

Week #67 Merry Christmas From Botswana!

Image
Hey y'all, I got 10 minutes to write this, so I apologize in advance. Highlights: There were a few huge rainstorms this week, which cooled us down from the 41°+ degree heat. We had a Christmas zone conference with all of Botswana. It was a lot of fun seeing everyone. There were some good trainings given, including one by Elder Wutkee and me (I don’t know how it went, but we gave them his home-baked cinnamon bread, so that made up for it). We concluded with a huge gift exchange, which was fun. The Youngs and Allens took us and the Broadhurst sisters out to dinner. A great way to say goodbye to them before they leave in January. To top it off, two girls fell in love with my companion at first sight as we were going to the bathroom. They wanted his number, but luckily we finessed our way out of it. My comp is a dawg for real. We had three different hospital trips with other missionaries this week (not emergencies). Went on exchanges with the Sisters from Gerald for a day while they we...

Week #66 I'm An Angel.

Hey everyone! I had a pretty good week with some fun stories. Our week started by going to our lovely mission president's wife, Sister Walker's, home. It was her birthday so we brought some home baked cinnamon bread from Elder Wutkee. We also found a “real” pizza place this same day that's pretty good. We also had a rehearsal early in the week to prepare us for our missionary nativity for the stake party on Sunday. I'm playing the Angel Gabriel so that's amazing We visited the RS president and her husband at their home this week. He's the CEO of Ford (or something like that) over a lot of southern African countries so they're loaded. They fed us some nice food they ordered, combined with Elder Wutkees cake, and a lot of crazy stories from brother Matswagothata about cars. We had a lot of fun and then we closed by talking about some important branch business. We had a meeting as ZL's, president Walker, and the stake president about Botswana's vision m...

Week #65 Cleaning. Comp-switch. Chicken Coop. Cologne. Chapati. Chaka.

Dumelang. Hopefully this email will be marginally better than last week's… Our week started out with a service opportunity in our district, we got to go to Sister Vistas's primary school and help with her graduation ceremony. We sang “Families Can Be Together Forever” with her, it was fun. The kids were super cute and they had a lot of funny performances. They also had some crazy Australian phys-ed dude come up to close the graduation, he said some pretty wild things that their kids should do… such as running around naked in mud puddles. On Wednesday night, Machisu and I slept over at Wutkee, Lejaha, Karp, and Bylund's flat. We watched the transfer calls and clapped an absurd amount of chapati, I think we've nearly perfected the craft at this point. Wutkee is my new companion, he'll be coming to be a ZL with me and we'll be merging the two areas! Other activities include, DEEP cleaning our whole flat, it's probably been many transfers since missionaries did ...
