Week #49 Wizards, Witnesses, And Wheelies
As expected by both you and me, I am exhausted now that it is time to write this email. I’ll do my best to share something interesting from this week.
Tuesday:
We taught a handful of lessons today and also went finding for an hour or so. We were able to find a potentially interested household but I'm not sure tbh. We had our typical Tuesday branch coordination meeting as well. It was our district leader, Elder Sackie's birthday so we went to his flat to end the night. We popped in for a few minutes to sing happy birthday and give him a cake and some mango juice (necessities) with the other elders as well as the AP'S.
Wednesday:
Karp and I had a nice visit to the dentist this morning… it was much nicer than expected and the dentist was great. Elder Pirie (AP/ trainer for 2 weeks) joined us for the day. When we pulled up to one of our lessons the sister was just going to get firewood so we offered to help. On the way back to her house I stepped on a huge thorn that went through my shoe and into my foot. Pirie maneuvered it off and my sock was all bloody, it wasn't the most pleasant service project. That same sister said that she is going to read the BOM in 20 days!
Thursday:
We held a brief zone council this morning over video call, president Walker joined which was a surprise! Definitely would have prepared better if we had known haha. Pirie joined us again and we taught a bunch of lessons. The best was with the Louis family (the ones that are trying to get married so they can be baptized). The brother in law who has been quite contentious finally understood the importance of finding out if the BOM is true for himself and I think he's going to read… finally!
Friday:
We had a great district council which both the AP's and the Youngs were able to attend! We had quite a lot of lessons today, around 10 but none of them were amazing. They were good, but nothing spectacular. Our friend Lucia who was baptized a few weeks back is helping her sister Onaletatha get excited about the gospel which is so great to see!
Saturday:
We checked the baltismal font this morning to make sure everything was ready for the sisters' baptism today. We came back a couple hours later to witness the baptisms of the two young men. We taught a few lessons and then found some shade to park in so Elder karp could do an interview over the phone. While we were finding shade we passed a biker meet up which was so sick, they were doing wheelies and showing off their bikes. We taught a bunch of lessons and contacted some people for church tomorrow. During our last lesson some very drunk guy walked (if you can call it that) up to us mumbling and saying “book of mormon”. We had to close the lesson unfortunately.
Sunday:
Lucia brought her sister, nephews, and niece to church today. She helped them to read the hymns, pray, and she even gave a talk at her own request!!! That was a huge blessing to see and so beautiful to see her true conversion. Our best lesson today was with the Louis family. Brother Peace, the one that has been creating problems, actually read all the chapters we sent to him!!! And he said he enjoyed them!!! I hope he'll be able to gain a testimony now :) Elders Steimle and Havea pulled up from Serowe to spend P-Day tomorrow.
Monday:
We did our shopping very quickly at the Francistown elders flat and headed to the Young's. As usual we played a lot of games, even some pickleball this week, and I'm continuing to learn a little bit of guitar. We also had a Monday night devotional which was led by President and Sister Walker. It was amazing as always, they always have so many insightful things to share!
Spiritual Thought:
The Book of Mormon is the Keystone of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. When we know it's true, we know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Jesus Christ's true church today, that Joseph Smith was a prophet, and that the priesthood was restored through him. The only way we can find out this truth is by reading, pondering, and praying about it ourselves. Not through Web surfing or what others say, but by sincerely working to find the truth ourselves. In Moroni 10:3-5 he tells us exactly how to gain our own testimony.
I invite each of you, whether or not you have a testimony of the BOM, to read, ponder, and pray about it. I can give you my sure and honest testimony that the BOM is true and that it will bring us nearer to God and our Savior Jesus Christ.
I also recommend you listen to Jeffrey R. Holland’s general conference talk “Safety for the Soul”.
Conclusion:
Love y'all, have a killer week
Elder Miller
