Week #36 Single Dad of Two

Image
Well… I’m officially a dad of two now! Since I came to Mochudi I continued the latter 6 weeks of Elder Mathias’ training but I have also received a newborn out of the MTC as of last Saturday. His name is Elder Mosweswe, he was called to Nigeria but got reassigned here, he’s from Botswana. You’ll hear more about him though later in this email… Tuesday: After our usual morning routine as well as weekly planning since it was Tuesday, the elders came over. We dropped them in their area and then went out for the day. We managed to get 6 lessons today and a very solid contact which made for a decent day. After our 4th lesson, we picked and dropped the other elders at home and then went to 2 more lessons. The last lesson was with a brother named Onkarabile and he’s so cool. However, he did beat me in a match of Mmhele before the lesson which was an L. We got to the flat and Elder Mathias made some cips mayai, you put fries and pour scrambled eggs into a pan to make an omelet. I also rolled La...

Week #35 The Road From Mortal Trials To Celestial Rewards, Always Winds Through Gethsemane.

What's up, everyone?! I had a pretty good week this week but also nothing crazy happened. Let's get started… Tuesday: I showed Elder Mathias how to set up a weekly planning board and then we called people for hours. We taught two sisters, Pauline and Opelo who are super cool and seem interested in the gospel. Next, we taught a brother named Botho who is on date and is very accepting and proactive about learning the gospel. Our next lesson was with a man from “The Band of Brothers” which was canceled. There is a church article and a general conference talk about them somewhere but I don't know the name, if you find it please let me know. We taught a few more lessons and even taught one with the other elders. When we got home we started a game of Monopoly. Wednesday: We typically leave the flat around 12 because of the additional studies since Elder Mathias is in training and then also English study. We taught a family who seem interested but the commitment is lacking and the...

Week #34 Mochudi

Today's going to be a really quick email because of time. Highlights: (Tuesday) Elder Kivuvas Birthday! We celebrated by going to the white castles and celebrated tonight. He got soaked with water (African tradition), flower and ketchup. Videos in the link. (Wednesday) We had transfer news tonight. Me and Kivuva are both leaving Kanye! I'm going to another village called Mochudi. (Thursday) we drove to the office in Gabs and saw a bunch of missionaries. Got to the new flat with Law, Were, (both my previous comps) and my trio which is Debry, Mathias (my trainee from Tanzania), and I. Law and Were are in the flat next door.  (Thursday) Debry had a medical emergency tonight so we're now a companionship, no trio :( please pray for him (Friday) we gave a blessing at the hospital. Some crazy guy prayed for us at the start of a lesson and put one hand on my head and one hand on Elder Mathius's head - even after we asked him to stop. (Saturday) all our lessons were in a town ca...

Week #33 Hooping With Shaq

Dumela Borra le Bomma. I hope you’re all doing well. This was another good week, with minimal problems so that was nice… unfortunately that also means no crazy stories. Tuesday: We had a brief zone council meeting this morning over zoom and talked about how our area is doing. Afterwards, I did our weekly planning. There were some people who showed up at our flat and cleaned out all of the overgrown grass and shrubs in our compound which was very nice. We grabbed some lunch, fat cakes with mince and a ginger beer, then we headed to our first lesson with Gift (baptized a couple weeks ago). We went finding for about 30 minutes and didn't find anyone. Our next lesson was with the friend (12 years old) of a member family and it went really well. We taught one of our friends who claims that he is 50/50 muslim/Christian. He couldn’t believe that as missionaries we put aside making money and “finding girlfriends” for 2 years. We argued for about 90 minutes. We taught a few more nice lesson...
