Wee #29 Rain, Rainbows, Conference And Christmas In April.

Hello all, I'm glad that you're all back for another weekly recap of my life in Botswana. I'm very tired today so the format will be slightly different but hopefully it can still be somewhat insightful.

Tuesday:

  • We taught 6 lessons today

  • It rained a little at lunch time

  • We stopped at the other 4 elders compound (Two homes) "the white fortress" so Elder Kivuva could do some DL (district leader) stuff. I played on their makeshift console boards with them, it was lit

Wednesday:

  • We taught 7 lessons today

  • They have fat cakes here! They're a lot bigger though and they stuff them with ground beef

  • I beat Kivuva at pool while we waited for a friend to come for our lesson. They have pay-to-play pool tables everywhere outside here under tin roofs

  • It was pouring rain all afternoon/evening

  • We put junior on date

  • Whenever anyone yells “Makoa” (white person) at me, Elder Kivuva yells “Botswana” at them, it's very funny

Thursday:

  • We had district council today, it was aight

  • We taught 7 lessons today

  • It was pouring rain again today

  • There was a rainbow

  • Day #200 complete

Friday:

  • The Senior office couples (gattens and kaspers) did a flat inspection and gave us some supplies we needed.

  • I finally received my Christmas package that has been waiting in the mission office since I was in Namibia.

  • 7 lessons today

  • We saw a bunch of little monkeys while walking to lessons

  • We bought a cake and went to a member friends home for her birthday

Saturday:

  • We picked up elders Wutkee and Mirah from the white fortress and went to service at a brother's home. He helped us make a bench press and gave us some rubber dumbbells. He's a Chad

  • We did a lot of scrambling around to lessons and walking with our regular members we take teaching (Joseph 16, Jessica 13, Sheeba 11) they're awesome

  • It was raining again today. It's so nice to have the cold and the rain. I hate the hot

Sunday:

  • We watched the Saturday afternoon and evening sessions of general conference today at church and all 7 of our friends who are on date came to church

  • We did a bit of scrambling around for lessons today since it was pouring rain and the sun sets at 18:15 here.

  • We journeyed with Joseph, Jessica, and Sheeba to a lesson in the pitch black and thunderstorm in baboon territory to a lesson (video in link)

  • We came home a bit early since everyone canceled and I got to watch the Saturday morning session of Conference

  • Power went out from the rainstorm

Monday:

  • We played bball and soccer this morning which was a lot of fun. I haven't hooked in like 6 months. Still throwing windmills though

  • Then we did some grocery shopping and bought some hardware supplies

  • We built half of our barbells at the white fortress out of metal rods and cement-filled buckets. Gotta get swole

  • Had a mission devotional this afternoon

Conclusion:

It was a good week and I'm getting to know the area/ culture/ language/ people better. When we immerse ourselves in the work and truly love the people it becomes much easier and much more enjoyable.

Spiritual thought:

Mosiah 2:17

“…that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.”
